In June 2023, Kansas City Credit Union and the Linwood YMCA launched the 2nd annual summer of “Catch Success,” which is part of the YMCA of Greater Kansas City’s Launch Pad program.
Catch Success helps KC kids in grades 6 through 12 learn about money management and planning for the future in an environment of academic support and enrichment at the Linwood Y. Kansas City Credit Union staff members, along with Exceeds Expectations, visited the Linwood Y bi-weekly and interactively taught the kids about budgeting their money for both short- and long-term purchases, how interest is accrued by saving over time, how to plan for future financial success, and much, much more.
On Thursday, July 27, Kansas City Royals infielder, Nicky Lopez, joined in on the fun! A small group of the kids had worked on a special project, and presented Nicky with a new business idea for a commemorative base with Nicky’s name and number on it. Nicky admired their creativity as they explained the project and then it was off to the gym for some hoops!
To add even more excitement to this program, each youth who participates in the Catch Success program at the Linwood Y will receive a $25 savings account at Kansas City Credit Union as a head-start toward a lifetime of positive financial experiences.
