More about our winner, Ky’Ree Harbin
Ky’Ree graduated from Lincoln College Preparatory Academy, where he was an Honor Roll student all four years and participated in many clubs and activities. He plans to attend the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff (UAPB) and will major in Nursing.
Assisting and serving others is a top priority for Ky’Ree, as is evident from his many volunteer activities. He’s even the founder of Seniors Helping Seniors – a community service group project where high school seniors give back to their community by assisting senior citizens. He’s also worked with Harvester’s as a volunteer, and at Hartman Elementary, where he provided tutoring and instructional coaching for K-6 students.
Ky’Ree wants to further his education as a way to fight for equality with healthcare access in poor communities like his own. He feels more African American male nurses are needed, and are currently under-represented in healthcare.
Ky’Ree says, “My choice to go to college and study nursing comes from life experiences. I want to be a nurse who not only understands the medical condition but also the social and financial difficulties of the patients.”
